1. Tweet, Retweet, and respond to Tweets. "Tweeting" is simply posting a message to your Twitter profile. "Retweeting" is when you repost someone else's "tweet" by copying the original tweet and pasting it into your update box, (before clicking update add RT @ before the name of originator of the the tweet). Retweeting is like the highest form of flattery on Twitter. Its a way of showing special appreciation for a particular tweet. Most of the time your followers will retweet your retweet, so its a good practice to only retweet really good tweets to increase your credibility!

2. Make Your Profile Stand Out. Use your Twitter profile like business card or elevator pitch. show your who, what, when, where, why, and how to potential followers. Convince them to follow you with a unique and personalized profile.
3. Follow and They'll Come Following. Perhaps you've heard the old saying "to have friends you must show yourself friendly," this definitely holds true on Twitter. You have to follow to have followers. Locate and follow Twitter users that share similar interests and/or that meet your particular demographic.
4. Tweet informative, interesting, and compelling information. Not everyone is interested in what you had for lunch so be thoughtful and creative with your tweets. Twitter followers don't need blow by blow details of your every day life. Share what you think your followers will care about... That's right tweet from the heart but always keep your audience in mind when tweeting. Use TwitPic to share photos, "a picture is worth a thousand words." Twitter only allows 142 characters so a picture is often a great way to get your point across.
5. Reply to tweets and messages as often as your time will allow. The more you use Twitter the greater your chances of reaching Rock Star status.
